The Medical Affairs department has an enviable reputation as a provider of the highest quality service and support to all
of Merck Serono's internal and external business areas.
The department provides medical and scientific advice and data relating to the product portfolio, pipeline drugs and relevant
therapeutic areas, ensuring an understanding and appreciation of the use and benefits of Merck Serono drugs.
Additionally, Medical Affairs develops clinical trials programs in support of Merck Serono's strategic directions and is responsible
for the maintenance and pharmacovigilance monitoring compliant with Australian regulatory and Merck Serono corporate requirements.

The Medical Affairs department is responsible for:
- Timely and high quality responses to requests for information from internal and external customers, including:
- Medical Specialists
- General Practitioners
- Nurses and Scientists
- Patients and Consumers
- Government and Media
- Liaison with marketing groups with early involvement in product development plans
- Review of sales promotional materials to ensure compliance with local relevant codes of conduct
- Assisting doctors in the access to Merck Serono drugs currently unregistered in Australia
- Provision of scientific and medical support for corporate clinical trials conducted in Australian sites
- Establishment and conducting of post registration clinical trials programs to support business plans
- Maintenance of in-house library services
- Review of hard copy and electronic journals for items of relevance
- Provision of interfaces with medical, scientific and nursing professions, professional associations, learned colleges and
media
- Identification of key opinion leaders and involvement in advisory board activities
- Provision of educational facilities and programs both internally and externally
- Involvement in local industry groups such as Medicines Australia
- Identification of potential business opportunities and provision of medical commentary on strategic planning
- Facilitation of interactions with Merck Serono Japan, particularly in the development of medical information systems and overseeing
of clinical development programs
- Maintenance of compliance with Australian and corporate pharmacovigilance requirements for reporting Adverse Events
